This is one of the largest trees we encountered in the stand near the coast in San Vicente. It is much smaller than many of the trees in the small stand near Guatay, in San Diego Co. Most of the stand at San Vicente consist thickets of small shrubby specimens. Baja California, Mexico

The stand west of San Vicente is only a few miles from the coast. Some trees are within 1/2 mile of the coast. Low clouds and fog during the morning hours is a daily occurence, along with cool tempratures. The southern most stand of Pinus muricata is growing nearby.

This is one of the larger trees we encountered at the San Vicente stand. It is about 12 inches in diameter.

We encountered only one tree at the San Vicente stand that had rough bark instead of the smooth peeling bark.
