Pinus monophylla califoniarum trees can be distinguished from Pinus quadrifolia by the less symmetrical crown and more branched trunks.
The Pinus monophylla californiarum are on the dryer eastern escarpment. Pinus quadrifolia/juarezensis was on top of the plateau and to the west of town.

Cone
These cones are smaller and the scales shorter than the Pinus monophylla monophylla. Also trees are greener colored.

Once again in the San Jacinto Mountains, Pinus monophylla californiarum was on the east side and Pinus quadrifolia on top and on the west side at wetter locations.
