Cupressus goveniana

Peninsula. This is the only place where Pinus muricata and Pinus radiata grow together naturally.

These trees, off of Congress Road, are only two miles from the Cypress Point grove of Cupressus macrocarpa. The other grove of Cupressus goveniana are 5 miles south, in a remote part of Point Lobos State Park, which is closed to the public. Those trees are only one mile from the only other native grove of Cupressus macrocarpa, also in Point Lobos State Park.

This is one of only two locations where Cupressus goveniana grow naturally. It is only a few miles from the coast, and experiences cool foggy summers. Frost rarely occurs, and snow is extreemly rare on the Monterey Peninsula. Several small seedlings can be seen in the foreground.
